NOAA WEATHER AND EMERGENCY ALERT RADIO

TIPS FOR USING THE WR120 EMERGENCY ALERT RADIO

The WR120 Emergency Alert Radio is an All-Hazards Alert Radio that will immediately alert you when the National Weather Service or Marin County Office of Emergency Services issues a life-saving warning for this county.

If you picked up your radio from Stinson Beach Fire, it has been pre-programmed so all you need to do is insert the batteries, plug it into a wall outlet, and turn the ON/OFF switch on the side to ON.  Leave it ON all the time.  It will silently monitor for alerts.

Stinson Beach is on Channel 1. Channel 7 will work as a back up in the event that our transmitter is down.

Pressing the WEATHER/SNOOZE button will play the National Weather Service Broadcast.

If an alert is issued, the radio will sound an eight second alert tone, and then it will tell you what the emergency is.  This function is automatic as long as you leave the radio plugged in and in the ON position.

It is not important to set the clock function, but you can do this by pressing MENU.  Select SET TIME.  You then set the hours and the minutes.  When the time is correct, press SELECT then MENU to save your edits.

Keep this radio somewhere where you will most easily hear it.  Keep the antenna extended for best reception.

The radio has back-up batteries in case of a power outage, but it should be plugged in at all times.  Put in a fresh set of batteries once a year when you replace your smoke alarm batteries or after a significant power outage.

Every Wednesday morning the National Weather Service will send out its required weekly test.  You may notice the ADVISORY light comes on, and REQUIRED WEEKLY TEST will scroll across the screen

NOTE: From time to time, the National Weather Service transmitter that covers West Marin goes down. When this happens, your radio may emit a regular beep and the lights might flash. To re-set your radio, you should unplug your radio, remove one battery, put the battery back in, and plug your radio back in.

If you have any questions, contact the Stinson Beach Fire Protection District at info@stinsonbeachfire.org.

Make this radio part of your family’s preparedness plan, and thanks for helping to keep Stinson Beach “Disaster Ready”.
