10/31/2025 The SBFPD flag has been lowered to half-staff to honor a respected member of the Stinson Beach community, Mel DeWeerd. Mel died peacefully this morning, October 31, 2025, after a short illness. Over his lifetime, he contributed in many ways to the vitality of our community and the Stinson Beach Fire Protection District.

Why are the SBFPD flags flown at half staff?

The Stinson Beach Fire Protection District flies its flags at half staff for:

Presidential or Gubernatorial orders
Memorial Day
Death of a member of the Stinson Beach Community

If you would like the flags be flown at Half Staff to honor the life of a community member, an immediate family member must make this request by writing to info@stinsonbeachfire.org.

Once the request has been made, the flag will be flown at half-staff for 4 days, and the name of the deceased will be posted here.
